Stronger Families announces Patron and confirmation of funding

His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson APM Governor of Western Australia has accepted an invitation to become Patron of the Stronger Families Foundation. In accepting the invitation, His Excellency said he is looking forward to his future involvement with Stronger Families.

“Stronger Families is devoted to ensuring the safety and well being of some of our community’s most vulnerable children through working with fathers who have been abusive, neglectful or violent in their families, and we are therefore delighted and honored that His Excellency has publicly recognised the value of our work by becoming our Patron” says Geoff Hart-Davies, CEO of the Stronger Families Foundation.

“We provide the Caring Dads program which is a dedicated, world's best practice, evidence based group intervention for men, that focuses on how violence in the home affects children and on raising men’s awareness about how disrespect towards the mother is also a form of violence against Children”’ Mr Hart-Davies said.

In another welcome announcement, the WA Department of Communities has announced a significant increase in funding to the Stronger Families Foundation to continue providing the Caring Dads program in the Peel region for a further 12 months. Caring Dads is a 17 week evidence based group intervention designed around the premise that violence against women and violence against children are strongly linked, and that these two issues both can, and should be addressed together.

“We are very grateful for the support of the WA State Government and look forward to realising our vision of a community in which families live free from the fear of family and domestic violence” says Paul Fitzpatrick, Chair of the Board of Stronger Families.

Stronger Families is now taking referrals for Caring Dads, and full details can be obtained on their website, www.strongerfamilies.com.au.
