The Stronger Families Foundation commences Caring Dads groups in the Peel Region
The Stronger Families Foundation Ltd has commenced providing the Caring Dads program in the Peel region. This initiative is linked to a 2021 West Australian state election commitment by the McGowan government to fund the Caring Dads program in the Peel region.
Caring Dads is a 17 week evidence based group intervention. It was designed around the premise that violence against women and violence against children are strongly linked, and that these two issues both can, and should be addressed together. “There is still an attitude, a culture that excuses and justifies, ignores or condones gender inequality that drives ultimately violence against women, and that is on all of us” said Prime Minister Scott Morrison at the opening address of the 2021 National Women’s Safety Summit.
Caring Dads start with the focus on how violence in the home affects children and on raising men’s awareness about how disrespect towards the mother is also a form of violence against children.
“Stronger Families will deliver the Caring Dads program, which is devoted to ensuring the safety and well being of some of the Peel community’s most vulnerable children through working with fathers who have been abusive, neglectful or violent in their families, or who are deemed to be at high risk for these behaviours” says Geoff Hart-Davies, CEO of the Stronger Families Foundation.
By offering Caring Dads, Stronger Families is committed to partnering with the Peel community and engaging men to promote safe and responsible fathers through the provision of dedicated, worlds best practice and evidence based group intervention programs.
“We are very grateful for the support of the WA State Government and look forward to realising our vision of a community in which families live free from the fear of family and domestic violence” says Paul Fitzpatrick, Chair of the Board of Stronger Families.
