Strengthening Families

Healing Through Connection and Support

Overview

Strengthening Families is a holistic, trauma-informed program supporting mothers and children impacted by family and domestic violence (FDV).

Developed by the Stronger Families Foundation in partnership with Allambee Counselling, the program works alongside but separate from Caring Dads, offering wrap-around therapeutic support without requiring any interaction between family members and the participating fathers.

How It Works

While Caring Dads helps fathers change harmful behaviours, Strengthening Families ensures mothers and children receive their own dedicated support — delivered independently of the men’s program.

There is no obligation or expectation for mothers or children to engage with the fathers involved.

Through trauma-specific counselling, the program provides a safe, supportive space for healing, recovery, and informed decision-making.

Key Features

Strengthening Families offers compassionate, trauma-informed care, where the following core features ensure families receive the support they need to heal, rebuild, and thrive:

  • Trauma-Informed Care
Compassionate, tailored therapy for mothers and children, focusing on safety, empowerment, and emotional well-being.
  • Mother-Focused Support
One-on-one counselling helps mothers understand FDV dynamics, navigate co-parenting challenges, and reflect on their goals and boundaries.
  • Child-Centred Interventions
Age-appropriate therapeutic sessions help children process trauma, build emotional literacy, and restore a sense of safety and stability.
  • Separate but Aligned
Although the program complements the Caring Dads initiative, it operates independently. Support for mothers and children is delivered without any contact with the men participating in the father-focused program.

Why It Matters

Family violence affects every member of the family. Strengthening Families offers a safe, continuous, and confidential support pathway for mothers and children — entirely separate from the fathers’ program.

By addressing the unique needs of each family member, the program promotes healing, resilience, and safer futures — one family at a time.
